EMC Pre-Compliance & Certification
Accelerate Your Path to Compliance
De-risk your project, identify issues early, and launch with total confidence.
The road to CE, UKCA, or MIL-STD certification is often paved with unexpected failures. A single non-compliance during a formal UKAS test can lead to costly redesigns, missed launch dates, and thousands of pounds in re-test fees.
At EMC Hire, our facility is your "safe space" to find, fix, and finish. Use our pre-compliance environment to troubleshoot your product before it ever reaches a formal test house.
Why Pre-Compliance Testing is Critical
Statistically, over 50% of products fail EMC testing on their first attempt. Pre-compliance testing at our Ivel Road facility allows you to:
- Fail Fast & Fix Early: Identify noise sources or immunity gaps whilst they are still straightforward, and inexpensive, to address.
- Real-Time Remediation: Unlike formal labs, we encourage you to bring your tools. Solder, shield, and swap components between scans to see immediate results.
- Investigative "Look-See" Scans: Use our near-field probes to 'sniff' your PCB for hotspots and pinpoint the exact source of interference.
- Master the Standards: Test against specific limits for CISPR, DEF STAN, or ISO in a low-pressure environment.
The "Safe Space" for Engineering Excellence
- Live Diagnostic Tools: Access to spectrum analysers, LISNs, and antennas pre-configured for your target standard.
- Engineering Workspace: Dedicated bench space for your DUT (Device Under Test) and monitoring equipment.
- Expert Sounding Board: Our engineers are on hand to provide a second opinion on tricky interference issues.
- Comparison Data: Generate "Golden Scans" to use as a baseline for future production units.
| Scenario | Formal Lab Failure | EMC Hire Pre-Compliance |
|---|---|---|
| Direct Cost | £2,000-£5,000+ per day | From £595 per day |
| Timing | Late-stage (difficult to change) | Early-stage (easy to address) |
| Result of Failure | Project delay & re-test fee | Immediate fix & progress |
| Pressure | High (pass/fail only) | Low (investigative/educational) |
Ready to de-risk your next launch?
Don't leave your certification to chance. Book a development day at our facility and de-risk and fix any EMC issues using a large selection of filters, surface-mount components, Würth ferrites, clamps and shielding gaskets. You may well achieve compliance before the end of the day.
The Full Compliance Journey
Whilst EMC Hire excels at troubleshooting, our facility is also fully equipped for final compliance testing. If you are following the self-certification route for CE or UKCA marking, our facility provides the calibrated equipment and traceable results you need to sign your Declaration of Conformity with total confidence.
- Traceable Accuracy: All equipment is fully calibrated with uncertainty budgets available on request.
- Self-Certification Support: Our engineers and WEMEC Ltd partners assist with documentation and gap analysis.
- Seamless Transition: Move directly from pre-compliance into compliance testing.
- Accredited Lab Management: Access ISO 17025 testing via our UK test house network.
| Feature | Development / Pre-Compliance | Compliance (Self-Cert) |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Identify & fix early-stage issues | Final legal declaration of conformity |
| Flexibility | Change test methods rapidly | Fixed standards-based protocols |
| Outcome | Improved design & troubleshooting | Test report for Technical File |
| Support | Hands-on engineer assistance | Validated data & documentation support |
Self-Certification Guide
Self-certification is a legally accepted route for most products under the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Regulations 2016.
- Identify Relevant Regulations & Standards
Determine applicable laws and standards such as EMC Regulations 2016 and EN 61000 series.
- Conduct Conformity Assessment
Perform testing using calibrated equipment, with or without engineer support.
- Compile Your Technical File
- Product description and intended use
- Circuit diagrams and bills of materials (BOMs)
- Test reports and supporting data
- Draft the UK Declaration of Conformity (DoC)
Declare compliance and accept legal responsibility for the product.
- Affix the CE/UKCA Mark
Apply the appropriate marking once all steps have been completed.
